Students must be at least 11 years old to take the course and must be 12 years old to baby sit on Marine Corps bases. Class covers child development & safety, diapering, feeding, responding to emergencies, and child & infant CPR and basic First Aid.

Students learn how to respond to life threatening emergencies such as choking, poisoning, and exposure to extreme weather conditions; perform CPR and First Aid; and recognize symptoms and provide care for common emergencies such as allergic reactions and car accidents.

This course is designed to give parents the knowledge they need to make informed choices during and after pregnancy. The focus is on healthy living and responsible decision making. Topics covered in class will include discussion of the labor and delivery process, partner assistance, newborn hospital procedures as well as characteristics of newborns and family postpartum care. The class runs once a week for five weeks, and there is no charge.
